CDF + SBF

What is the relationship between the Carlin Dunne Foundation and The Santa Barbara Foundation? Well, the world of non profits, charities and foundations is a vast and complicated one, and I for one am a noob when it comes to all of this. After coming out the end of a google rabbit hole with no more confidence than when I went in, I was so lucky and thankful to be introduced to a guide who steered me toward the Santa Barbara Foundation. The mission of the Santa Barbara Foundation is to mobilize collective wisdom and philanthropic capital to build empathetic, inclusive and resilient communities. For me and CDF this means they handle all of the “behind the scenes” work, from taxes to accounting, when you make a donation, they send you a letter of gift in kind. When you buy any of the merchandise through the website or at any of our events I transfer it all to them, to go into the Carlin Dunne Foundation account. If you are hired by me for something, they pay you. Beyond handling all of this for a fee less than what it would cost for me to hire someone, they also handle all of the due diligence for when we make a donation to another charity, which we get to do every year, so not only do your donations go to the efforts we are currently working on they go to other charitable organizations who are also working towards similar goals. It really was a no brainer for me once I learned what they do, and thankfully the Santa Barbara Foundation believed in me and in what the Carlin Dunne Foundation is working towards and took us on, I could not be more thankful to them and to those who steered me to them. This partnership also means that I can focus all my energy towards the work and goals of the foundation and not be bogged down with the mountains of paperwork associated with these lofty dreams. I hope also that this partnership helps you, our generous donor, rest easy knowing that there is expert oversight, no one at the Carlin Dunne Foundation is receiving a paycheck, and every dollar we bring in is being absolutely maximized. Thank you all for your support!

A letter from Daniela

My brother was so full of charisma, openness, with the ability to bring people together and capture attention, what many people don’t know is that he was also the best brother, and someone that was so easy to look up to. I always looked to him for guidance, I always looked up to him for his drive, perseverance, pragmatism, and self assuredness, among just about everything else.

Days after his passing the idea of creating something that would be at least as big as he was, something to keep his memory alive, a way for him to continue helping and mentoring people, and selfishly a way for me to still have my big brother around, came to be. In taking a page from his book I hope to help those who are passionate about motorcycles and have the drive to excel, get a leg up in the sport. It is hard enough to win a race, I hope to alleviate some of the other difficulties and complications that these riders face in the form of creating clear pathways and guidelines to success off the race track. Provide the nuggets of wisdom that my brother had to learn the hard way, and help create connections and mentorship opportunities to others coming up. There is room at the top for everyone and we are all better for helping others succeed. Hand in hand with this it is apparent to me, as it was to him, that head injuries plague many riders, in addition to other athletes, and I think that we can also help with these issues we face, concussions and tbi’s are no joke, but they are recoverable, we are all at risk, and united it is easier to get through. Through the foundation we can find a way to help everyone plagued with an unfortunate head injury get through it a little easier.

I miss my brother every minute of every day, nothing will change that, but I love hearing from everyone who knew him, I love meeting everyone, his memory is all we have left and it lives in every single person who knew him. Words don’t quite capture the appreciation I have for everyone who has been so supportive of me and the foundation, I hope to make him proud, I hope to make everyone proud, and I hope to allow him to continue helping people.
